Picture a steel yard in Jebel Ali at six in the morning. The coils arrive on schedule, but the 7-ton truck on site is working at its limit. The operator is nervous, the supervisor is watching the clock, and everyone knows the next heavy delivery will make things worse.
This is usually when a company starts searching for a forklift 10 ton model. The real question is rarely “what’s the price?” It’s “will this machine do the job safely, every day, in 45°C heat, without costing us a fortune to keep running?”
This guide covers what a 10 ton forklift can and can’t lift, the two Hyundai XiteSolution 10 ton models we supply in the UAE (the 100D-9 and the 100D-9V), where this class earns its place, what drives the price, and what to check before you commit.
What Is a 10 Ton Forklift?
A 10 ton forklift is a heavy-duty counterbalance truck rated to lift 10,000 kg at a stated load centre, usually 600 mm. Almost all are diesel-powered and built for outdoor yards, ports, steel stockholders, precast plants and heavy manufacturing.
It sits in the “heavy line” category, above the standard Hyundai diesel forklifts that cover roughly 1.5 to 8 tons. Think of it as the machine you buy when the load stops being a pallet and starts being a structure, a coil or a concrete element.
Is 10 Tons Really 10 Tons?
Not always. This is the most common misunderstanding we see.
The rated capacity applies only when the load’s centre of gravity sits at the specified distance from the fork face, with the mast upright and at a defined lift height. Change any of those and usable capacity drops. Three things reduce it most:
- A longer load. A 4-metre steel section has its centre of gravity much further out than a compact block. Capacity falls accordingly.
- Attachments. Side-shifters, fork positioners and rotators add weight and move the load forward. The result is a lower residual capacity.
- Higher lift. Capacity is typically reduced as the mast extends, so a truck rated for 10 tons at ground level may carry less at full height.
Always read the capacity plate and the load chart for your exact configuration, not the headline number. If your heaviest regular load is 9 tons with an awkward centre of gravity, a 10 ton truck may not be enough.

Which One Should You Choose?
Choose the 100D-9V for new fleet deployments. The Hyundai 100D-9V is the current specification of the pair. It brings a Stage V Cummins F3.8 engine, an upgraded ZF transmission, a cabin that tilts forward 52 degrees for fast service access (with a sensor that stops it tilting if the door is open), a digital cluster with built-in self-diagnosis and password-protected speed limiting, and an accumulator-based load cushioning system that reduces load sway on uneven yards. If you need Stage V compliance or want the shortest service turnaround, this is the one.
Choose the 100D-9 for proven, straightforward 10 ton work. The Hyundai 100D-9 runs the Cummins QSF3.8 with no EGR system, which means fewer components to service in dust and heat. It is the alternative option on the same 10 ton platform, with the same Kessler axle and wet disc braking.
Both models are only slightly larger than an 8 ton truck, which matters in tight yards. The 100D-9V, for example, is just 10 cm longer and 8 cm wider than a standard 8 ton machine, so moving up to 10 tons rarely means redesigning your site layout.
Safety and Fleet Control
Both trucks include an Operator Presence Sensing System (OPSS), an automatic SAHR parking brake that engages when the engine stops, a real-time slope display with an alarm, and a high-strength overhead guard. Optional extras include a rear camera and a load weight indicator with overload alarm. Hi-MATE remote fleet management reports operating status, fault codes, utilisation hours and location to your phone or computer, which helps you schedule maintenance before a fault becomes a breakdown.
Where a 10 Ton Forklift Earns Its Keep
These are the applications where this tonnage consistently makes sense:
- Steel and metal handling: coils, plates, beams and bundled sections.
- Precast concrete: panels, beams, slabs and drainage components.
- Ports and logistics yards: heavy cargo, break-bulk and oversized crates in terminals such as JAFZA, Khalifa Port and the Port of Sharjah.
- Heavy manufacturing: machinery components, dies, moulds and large fabricated assemblies.
- Construction and infrastructure suppliers: pipes, culverts, blocks and heavy plant parts.
- Timber, aluminium and bulk commodities: large packs and blocks that outweigh standard trucks.
- Oil and gas support bases: offshore supply yards and heavy equipment storage.
If your work is mostly palletised goods in covered warehouses, a 10 ton truck is almost certainly oversized. Our guide to diesel versus electric forklifts for UAE warehouses is a better starting point.
Do You Need 10 Tons? A Quick Decision Guide
Buying too small is dangerous. Buying too big is expensive, and it costs you in fuel, tyre wear and manoeuvrability every day.
Here is a simplified table, but our experienced sales technicians can go through the full options available for your requirements.
Your heaviest regular load | Likely right Hyundai choice |
Up to about 8 tons | Standard Hyundai diesel forklift (up to the 80D-9 class) |
8 to 10 tons, or long and awkward loads | 10 ton class: Hyundai 100D-9 or 100D-9V (with headroom) |
Consistently above 10 tons | 11 ton 110D-7E or 13 ton 130D-7E |
14 to 16 tons | 16 ton 160D-7E |
16 to 18 tons | 18 ton 180D-9B or 180D-9V |
18 to 25 tons | 25 ton 250D-7E |
Up to 30 tons | 30 ton 300D-9 |
Loaded containers | Container handlers or reach stackers |
A useful rule: size the truck for your heaviest regular load, add margin for attachments and centre-of-gravity effects, and don’t size it for the one-off job that happens twice a year. For occasional extreme loads, hiring or a dedicated machine is often smarter than owning an oversized truck.
You can compare the full range on our Hyundai Heavy Line forklift page, which covers every model from 10 to 30 tons. For loaded containers, Al Shirawi Trading also supplies Taylor heavy duty forklifts, container handlers (laden and empty) and reach stackers.
What Affects Forklift Price in UAE?
Anyone searching for forklift price in UAE will find the same frustrating thing: almost nobody publishes a number. There’s a good reason. A 10 ton truck is configured to order, and two machines with the same capacity can differ in price by a wide margin.
Here is what actually moves the quote:
- Model and engine generation. The 100D-9 (Tier 3) and the 100D-9V (Stage V, upgraded ZF transmission, tilt cabin, load cushioning) sit at different specification levels, and the quote reflects that.
- Mast and lift height. Taller or multi-stage masts add cost and reduce residual capacity.
- Tyre and surface suitability. Pneumatic tyres suit rough yards. Confirm the right fit for your surface before ordering.
- Cab and comfort options. Swivel seat, air suspension and other operator options are priced individually.
- Attachments and safety options. Fork positioners, side-shifters, extended forks, rear camera and load weight indicator with overload alarm all add to the quote.
- Delivery and registration. Transport of a machine this size, plus any site-specific setup, belongs in the budget.
- New versus used. A new forklift price in UAE is higher than a used machine, but you get a full warranty, current safety features, known history and predictable service intervals.
A fair comparison between quotes means the same capacity at the same load centre, the same mast, the same tyres and the same warranty terms. Without that, you are comparing different machines.
The Price on the Quote Is Only the Start
A heavy forklift usually costs more to run over its life than to buy. Four costs deserve as much attention as the invoice:
- Fuel. Diesel consumption at this size is significant, particularly in stop-start yard work. Hyundai’s PWR and STD modes let you run STD (80% of PWR output) on lighter cycles such as moving empty containers or repositioning materials and save fuel without losing full power when you need it.
- Tyres. Heavy loads on abrasive yard surfaces wear tyres quickly.
- Planned servicing. Regular maintenance is cheaper than any breakdown. The sealed wet disc brakes on the Kessler D41 axle cut brake servicing compared with drum or dry disc alternatives, and the 100D-9V’s tilt cabin shortens every service visit.
- Downtime. When a 10 ton truck is down, the work it supports stops too.
Downtime is where cheap decisions get expensive. A delayed part can idle a whole yard, as we explain in the true cost of downtime and why local parts stock matters. The same applies to parts quality. Our article on why cheap spare parts are the most expensive mistake shows how a low-cost component can cause far bigger problems later.
Built for UAE Conditions
Heat is the main stress on a heavy diesel truck here. Radiators clog with dust, hydraulic oil runs hotter, and filters need attention more often than manufacturer defaults suggest. Hyundai’s heavy forklifts use proportionally controlled cooling fans that read engine, transmission, coolant and hydraulic temperatures together and adjust in real time, and the wet disc brakes are sealed against dust, sand and water.
Whichever brand or supplier you buy from, ask these questions:
- Is the cooling system rated for sustained ambient temperatures above 45°C?
- What filtration is fitted, and how often should it be changed in dusty yards?
- What cabin and climate options are available?
- What service interval do you recommend for UAE operating conditions?
A supplier who answers these specifically has seen how machines behave on site. One who gives a generic reply probably hasn’t.
Before You Buy: A Practical Checklist
- Weigh your heaviest regular load and note its dimensions and centre of gravity.
- Confirm the lift height you really need, and whether attachments will be used.
- Decide whether you need Stage V emissions compliance (100D-9V) or Tier 3 is acceptable (100D-9).
- Check floor load ratings, ramps, gate widths and turning space.
- Decide on tyre type based on your surface.
- Ask for the load chart at your actual configuration.
- Request a written quote that includes delivery, warranty and service terms.
- Ask where parts are stocked and how quickly a technician can reach your site.
- Confirm operator training and certification requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much does a 10 ton forklift cost in the UAE?
There is no single price. The final figure depends on the model (100D-9 or 100D-9V), mast, tyres, options, attachments and delivery. A 10 ton truck costs considerably more than a standard warehouse forklift, so request a written quote for your exact specification.
-
What is the lifting capacity of a 10 ton forklift?
It is rated to lift 10,000 kg at a standard load centre, usually 600 mm. The Hyundai 100D-9 and 100D-9V are both rated at 10,000 kg at 600 mm. Longer loads, attachments and higher lift heights reduce the usable capacity, so always check the load chart.
-
What is the difference between the Hyundai 100D-9 and 100D-9V?
Both are rated at 10,000 kg. The 100D-9 uses a Tier 3 Cummins QSF3.8 engine and an HDX F80 transmission. The 100D-9V upgrades to a Stage V Cummins F3.8 engine, an upgraded ZF transmission, a 52-degree tilt service cabin, a digital cluster and hydraulic load cushioning. For new fleet deployments, the 100D-9V is the current specification.
-
Is a new forklift better than a used one?
A new machine comes with a full warranty, current safety features and predictable servicing. A used machine costs less initially but carries uncertainty about its history and wear. For heavy, daily work, many operators prefer new for the reliability.
-
Are 10 ton forklifts diesel or electric?
Almost all are diesel at this capacity, because diesel suits heavy outdoor work and long shifts. Both Hyundai 10 ton models are Cummins diesel. Electric trucks are widely used at lower capacities.
-
What size forklift do I need for steel coils?
It depends on the coil weight, diameter and the attachment used. Add a safety margin to the heaviest coil you handle and check the residual capacity with the attachment fitted.
-
How often should a heavy forklift be serviced?
Follow the manufacturer's schedule as a minimum. In dusty or very hot conditions, many operators shorten the intervals for filters, cooling and hydraulics. A maintenance contract keeps this predictable, and Hi-MATE service reminders help you stay on schedule.
-
Can a 10 ton forklift lift loaded containers?
Usually not. Loaded containers often exceed what this class can handle safely, so container handlers or reach stackers are the better choice.
-
What if my loads are heavier than 10 tons?
The Hyundai Heavy Line continues with the 110D-7E (11 ton), 130D-7E (13 ton), 160D-7E (16 ton), 180D-9B and 180D-9V (18 ton), 250D-7E (25 ton) and 300D-9 (30 ton).
-
Do I need a licence to operate one?
Operators should be trained and certified for the equipment in line with site and local safety requirements. Ask your supplier about training options.
